Working Principle
An air circuit breaker (ACB) operates by automatically interrupting current flow upon detection of overload or short-circuit. Under normal conditions, its main contacts remain closed to allow unobstructed current flow. When sustained overcurrent occurs, the thermal element warps from heat accumulation, triggering the tripping mechanism. In sudden short-circuit events, the solenoid coil produces an instantaneous magnetic force to activate the tripping mechanism. This action rapidly separates the main contacts, generating a strong electric arc that is immediately directed to the arc-extinguishing chamber. There, the arc is split, cooled, and extinguished, safely disconnecting the circuit and preventing system damage.
